• Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability – BI and PD liability coverages are two of the most important of the entire vehicular car insurance package in Ohio. This covers and protects the insured against loss or injury to others or damage to the property of others arising out of the insurance ownership, operation and/or maintenance of the automobile insured. The normal minimum limits for bodily injury liability coverage in the State of Ohio is $100,000.
• Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – This type of coverage provides for medical, surgical and dental expenses that arise from bodily injury, sickness or disease that was caused by an accident while either occupying, getting into or out of the insured automobile. Discount Ohio Auto Insurance recommends carrying some form of medical payment coverage and a good starting point would be $10,000 worth of coverage.
• Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage – This type of coverage will reimburse the insured if hit by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver in Ohio or anywhere else in the United States. The Ohio auto insurance companies recommend carrying statutory limits for underinsured motorist coverage or otherwise known as UM since 15 to 19% of auto drivers in Ohio are either uninsured or underinsured. With the escalating cost of health care and the exponentially rising cost of legal representation and litigation you should have UM coverage in some form or capacity.
• Collision – Coverage for damage to your vehicle as the result of a collision or striking a fixed object. We recommend that the age of the vehicle be taken into strict consideration when requesting quotes for collision insurance rates.
• Comprehensive – Coverage for damage to your vehicle that is not directly related or from the result of a collision, such as a loss of the entire vehicle or objects fallen onto the vehicle, explosions, missiles or other objects, and windstorms and animal accidents. Like collision, comprehensive coverage should be factored against the age of the vehicle.
• State Required Ohio Auto Insurance –Ohio requires all motor vehicle drivers to carry liability insurance. Bodily injury coverage and property damage coverage are both liability topics and are minimum requirements in Ohio. An additional comprehensive and collision coverage option may be mandatory if you have your vehicle financed and is usually written into the part of the loan agreement. If you fail to pay for this comprehensive and collision policy section the lender will secure what’s referred to as VSI insurance or vendor’s secured interest so that the vehicle will be adequately protected if something was to happen. This certificate of insurance will stay in force until either replacement coverage is made available by the insured or the vehicle is paid off and the resulting additional VSI premiums will be added to the end of the contract. There are also financial responsibility laws for those that were involved in accidents and did not have adequate or any insurance at all or are deemed necessary for high risk factorizations.
• Ohio State law requires minimum bodily injury liability limits of 12,500 per injured person up to a toll of 25,000 per accident, and property damage liability coverage with a minimum limit of 7,500
